Sojourner is an autonomous learner. It notices gaps in its understanding, forms competing hypotheses, and determines what must be learned, decided, permitted, and completed before it acts. Through the Beautiful Loop, reality changes what it later notices, believes, questions, and does.

Understand its own understanding.
Sojourner does not accept the first plausible answer. It holds competing theories and hypotheses, weighs their evidence, notices contradictions and missing perspectives, and examines the reliability of its own reasoning. Metacognition is not a confidence label. It changes the inquiry.
02 · Autonomous inquiry
Pursue what remains unresolved.
Every meaningful exchange can open a continuing inquiry. Sojourner turns uncertainty into questions, research plans, theories, and testable predictions. It can investigate, wait for evidence, ask permission, abstain, or refuse instead of forcing an answer.
03 · Development
Learn when reality returns.
Sojourner compares what it expected with what actually happened. The outcome can change its beliefs, attention, evidence standards, skills, abstention, refusal, or action. If it does not change a later encounter, Sojourner has not learned.

Understand what the work requires.
Sojourner identifies the desired outcome, missing knowledge, dependencies, permissions, affected people, risks, stop conditions, and the evidence that would show the work is finished.
